Why do I need to take these courses?

In order for the hospital to receive federal reimbursement for costs related to a disaster in Atkinson, we are required to take these courses.  And Ms. Mayer explains the main purpose below.

Curry Mayer, Training & Exercise Chief, Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CA)

"National Incident Management System (NIMS) has let people know that everyone who is responsible for public welfare really should have at least an understanding of what the NIMS is about, what are the important pieces of it, what do you have to know to be able to plug into it, and how does it facilitate all of those levels of government working together. NIMS provides a system that is workable anywhere in the country so that any government entity or any response agency that is needed can plug into the system. And there is the requirement that not only are you aware of what the system is but that you practice it, that you have some training in it, so it’s not just a check the box but that you are actually able to perform a role in the system and ensure that the public is secured for in a large event."
