Hospital Reports 13 Years of Positive Financial Performance

ATKINSON, NE — The annual meeting of the West Holt Memorial Hospital board of directors was held on October 22, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Flat Iron Bar & Grill in Atkinson. The meeting was open to the public, corporate members and board of directors.

Chief Financial Officer Karen Nollette presented the annual audit for fiscal year 2018. A highlight of the audit presentation included a growth of 11.6% in total operating revenue, achieving a milestone of thirteen consecutive years of positive financial performance for West Holt Memorial Hospital. The hospital’s total profit margin of 1.13% was within range of other Nebraska critical access hospitals its size. Eighty-four percent of the hospital’s total revenue came from outpatient services, confirming a national healthcare trend towards outpatient-based services.

Bradley Pfeifer, CEO, presented the administrator’s report highlighting significant activities, projects and accomplishments throughout the year. Pfeifer emphasized the significant changes West Holt Memorial Hospital has made in its quality improvement program and IT advancements.

During the corporate board meeting, Brett Lieswald was elected onto the corporate board and Trent Schaaf, Mike Butterfield, and John Kramer were re-elected to a three year term each.

Following the corporate board meeting, the board of directors met to elect new board members and officers. Brett Lieswald was elected onto the 9-member board of directors. He joins Trent Schaaf – President, Bryan Rentschler – First Vice President, John Kramer – Second Vice President, Brendan Borer – Treasurer, Jack Wolf – Secretary, Jarrod Hamik, Susan Myers, and Lori Olson.

Past board members were recently recognized with a plaque for their years of service to West Holt Memorial Hospital: Dwain Marcellus (11 years) and Joel Elm (6 years). A memorial plaque was placed in the hospital’s healing garden in recognition of Jenny Stracke’s six years of service on the board of directors.
