Thomassen Selected for NHA Caring Kind Award

Monday, September 10, 2018

ATKINSON — West Holt Medical Services is proud to announce that their registered nurse Jessica Thomassen has been selected as a recipient of the Nebraska Hospital Association’s “The Caring Kind” award.

Each Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) member hospitals and health systems from across the state select one employee from their facility to be recognized. The recipients of this prestigious award go above and beyond the call of duty to demonstrate compassion for patients, cooperation with coworkers and dedication to excellence in their job responsibilities. Award recipients commit themselves to the betterment of their hospitals and health systems, their customers, their coworkers and their communities.

For thirty-nine years, the Nebraska Hospital Association has paid tribute to over 2,000 of Nebraska’s most caring and dedicated healthcare employees at The Caring Kind Awards Luncheon during the NHA Annual Convention each fall.

Six West Holt Medical Services employees were nominated for the award and were recently recognized at a special luncheon. “It was hard to choose just one employee for the award. All of the nominees deserve to be recognized and celebrated for their contributions to our patients, coworkers and the community,” shared chief executive officer Brad Pfeifer.

Thomassen was nominated by coworkers, Lisa Fix and Nikki Cook. Lisa Fix shares, “Jessica is a smiley, very pleasant RN on our acute care nursing floor. Over the past several years, I have seen Jessica remain very calm with her head in the game. Under pressure, she comes off the same way. I cannot reiterate how pleasant she is whether she has no patients or 17 patients. Jessica has helped build our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, worked in surgery and is currently working in the ER/inpatient area. I have seen Jessica mentor other members of the nursing staff and she has always been helpful in navigating me in the EMR system where I need to find information. She is a good trouble-shooter. Jessica is also a wife and mother of two young boys. In her spare time, she found time to go back to school and complete her BSN degree. I stand amazed. She represents the kind of nurse that I would want to take care of me if need be. I trust her nursing skills and judgement. Jessica is very deserving of this award.”

Nikki Cook shares, “Jessica’s knowledge and skill level are above and beyond! Jess has an amazing way of interacting with patients and family members which puts them at ease. I am always amazed with her ability to look calm on the outside, even when I know she may be scared or sad on the inside. She is fantastic at multi-tasking and makes it look easy. She takes on extra duties and responsibilities when able. She is definitely one of the nurses I would want taking care of me if I had a health crisis!”

Thomassen will attend The Caring Kind Award Luncheon next month to receive this prestigious award. Please join West Holt Medical Services in congratulating Jessica Thomassen, RN, BSN as their 2018 The Caring Kind award recipient.
