West Holt Medical Coronavirus (COVID-19) Testing Update

Friday, October 23, 2020

West Holt Medical Services (WHMS) is now able to conduct on-site rapid testing for coronavirus COVID-19 using Abbott-IDNOW. The test is conducted with a nasal pharyngeal swab.

Due to limited supplies, not all patients may qualify to be tested. Testing will be prioritized based on severity and longevity of symptoms, risk to the patient and the risk of spreading the virus. All patients suspected to have COVID-19 will be asked to fill out a questionnaire to determine if they qualify for a rapid test under the current guidelines at WHMS. Prioritization of testing may change in the future based on availability of testing supplies.

If you do not qualify for rapid testing but still require a test, WHMS has the ability to send samples to Sanford for PCR testing.

If you believe you or someone in your household has contracted the coronavirus, please contact your primary care provider. Your provider can help determine if you may qualify for or require a test.

Screening procedures that have been in place at WHMS will remain in effect, including all staff, patients and visitors having their temperature taken at the screening kiosks located near all entrances and patients and visitors answering a series of questions to determine if they have signs, symptoms or indicators associated with COVID-19.

Individuals who have contracted the virus may develop the following upper respiratory symptoms within the first few days: runny nose, cough, fever, and sore throat. These symptoms are very similar to influenza which is why travel history becomes an important factor in determining the likelihood of the illness being the coronavirus.
